About Dr. Silberg

Dr. Barry Silberg has been in practice in Santa Rosa, California since 1979 and is the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He is a specialist in Cosmetic, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the ONLY organization representing exclusively Plastic Surgeons. This Board requires extensive training in General Surgery and completion of a full university residency-training program in Plastic Surgery. Board certification indicates that the surgeon has passed challenging written and oral examinations demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the specialty. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists for the certification of Plastic Surgeons.

In addition, Dr. Silberg is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. This is a title that is granted by peer surgeons only after a careful evaluation of the candidate's training, background and professional standing. To maintain membership in both organizations, a Plastic Surgeon must show evidence of continued education and excellence in the specialty.

Dr. Silberg attended Texas A&M University after which he attended The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas, where he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree. His internship was at the University of Wisconsin the following year. For the next three years, Dr. Silberg was a Major in the United States Army Medical Corps serving in Germany. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service for his contributions to NATO exercises throughout Europe.

Following service, Dr. Silberg trained in General Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas under the highly respected heart and vascular surgeon, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey. During that time, he studied Plastic Surgery with Dr. Thomas Cronin, the inventor of the modern breast implant.

He completed further training in Plastic Surgery at the University of Mississippi after which he became the first Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery at the University of California, Davis. After completing his training, he continued as Clinical Instructor in Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Silberg invented the Silberg Tissue Preparation System and owns patents on this technique and device, which are now used worldwide. The technique makes surgery and liposuction less traumatic by loosening the tissues and preventing exposure dehydration. Faster healing and better results are now possible because of Dr. Silberg’s invention.  In addition to its use in plastic surgery, the Silberg Tissue Preparation System is used by open-heart surgeons in cardiac bypass surgery to reduce complications, eliminate leg pain and improve post-surgical healing.

Dr. Silberg is the founder of the Santa Rosa Antibiotic Research Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that has been formed to advance the science of antibiotic medicine.  FDA and IRB approved research and clinical studies are currently underway.  See recent articles about Dr. Silberg at NorthBay Biz and the North Bay Business Journal.
