The Surgeon, Staff and Technology Make the Difference

The Surgeon:

Dr. Barry Silberg has been in practice in Santa Rosa since 1979 and is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. A specialist in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, and certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, he has performed thousands of cosmetic surgeries incorporating leading edge technologies and state-of-the-art techniques. Dr. Silberg is a frequent lecturer and teacher for cosmetic surgeons worldwide, having taught throughout the U.S., France, South America, and Asia.

The Staff:

Our staff includes a team of anesthesiologists, registered nurses and certified operating room technicians that monitor and assist each patient before, during, and after surgery to ensure maximum safety and comfort.

Office Manager: Joyce Shephard has been with our practice since 1990 and joined our office after working for another cosmetic plastic surgeon for five years. Her professional career has been devoted to this medical specialty and this experience makes her an outstanding manager and clinical care coordinator. Joy’s experience and communication skills make her a tremendous support to our patients and practice.

Office Assistant: Erin Mathewson joined our office in 2011 and assists Joy in greeting patients and keeping our office running smoothly.

Corporate Administrator:  Michele Brulé, M.B.A., has been with our practice since 2007.  She manages our financial, administrative, and technology related matters.

The Technology That Sets Us Apart and Improves Results for Our Patients:

Accredited Surgical Facility: Many surgeries can be performed in-house in our accredited surgical facility. Our facility is accredited with the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

Latest State-of-the-Art Equipment:

  • External Ultrasound Assist: External Ultrasound Assist is a method of preparing tissue for surgery by infusing fluid followed by high frequency ultrasound using a special device designed especially for this procedure. The treatment results in faster recovery, less bruising, and better results. This newer technique has tremendous benefits for patients, but is not typically done in all cosmetic surgery practices.

  • Argon Force GSU unit: This is an extremely advanced way of performing surgery that speeds the rate of healing and reduces swelling and discomfort. We are pleased to be able to offer the latest innovations in cosmetic surgery, like the Argon unit.

  • Computer Imaging: Explore your options with our extremely high-resolution digital computer imaging. This goes far beyond the usual video scan, revealing more details than previously possible. Not only can the patient get a preview of what to expect — the surgeon can plan ahead for what is possible.

  • Endoscopic Surgery: The latest endoscope — the same as the one used at Stanford and the University of California, San Francisco — allows precise control and minimal incisions when working in the deeper layers. A miniature television camera sits on the tip of a retractor. The image is sent to a high-resolution monitor which allows the surgeon to see far more than would otherwise be possible. The main benefit of this technique is less trauma for the patient and more precise control for the physician, providing better results.

  • VariLite Laser Treatment: A state-of-the-art fast, comfortable and effective treatment for vascular, pigmented and cutaneous lesions.

Commitment to Education and Advancement: Dr. Silberg attends several international and national Plastic Surgery meetings each year where he teaches courses to other Plastic Surgeons on the latest techniques. He has published numerous articles and has presented his work as an invited guest professor and/or surgeon in Japan, Thailand, France, Mexico, Korea, and Brazil as well as at major medical meetings in the United States. He is the inventor of External Ultrasound Assist, used worldwide to make surgery less traumatic. His instrument, the Silberg Graft Passer, is widely used in soft tissue augmentation of the face, making procedures more accurate.
